River Cleanups

Sacramento River Preservation Trust River Reps, our members, and volunteers are dedicated stewards of the land; as such, they are called to cleanup any area in which they explore. We host monthly and annual cleanup events  along the main stem of the Sacramento River, on water, in parks, and along roadways.

To help organize this passion to cleanup and heal our natural environments we here at the Sac River Trust organize monthly and annual River Cleanup events. Our two major cleanup efforts are our adopted section of road along the Sacramento River near Chico on River Road and West Sacramento Avenue, and during the annual River 100 Paddle Race in coordination with Rivers for Change and other groups.

Starting in July, cleanups will be held on the FIRST SUNDAY of the month through the end of 2014.

Want to River Rep with us?

If you are interested in volunteering please fill out our volunteer form online (here) or just show up on Saturday morning and we will have release and interest forms available. Bags, trash pickers, coffee and pastries provided. We will meet at the Indian Fishery parking lot, where West Sacramento and River Road intersect, at 9:00am and work for 2-hours until 11:00am. No host lunch at Scotty’s Landing after the cleanup from 11:30am-12:30pm. The Sac River Trust Board of Directors and Staff will also be present at Scotty’s for lunch to mingle with our membership and volunteers before a 3-hour marathon strategic planning session in the Scotty’s Yacht Club.

Please Come Prepared…

River Reps are always ready for adventure and dressed in appropriate attire for the occasion. Please come to the cleanup in good walking/hiking shoes, with appropriate clothing layers for the weather. Please bring a personal water bottle and a small snack if you are not planning to join us at Scotty’s after the cleanup. Feel free to bring binoculars, cameras or other activities to do while we are outside enjoying some our local state recreation areas.

Location – Directions

From Chico, take West Sacramento Ave. 5 miles until it intersects with River Road;  Indian Fishery straight ahead and Scotty’s is to the right.

From I-5 take the Highway 32 exit at Orland. Proceed East on Highway 32 and turn right on River Road. Continue down River Road past Scotty’s about 1/4-mile and just before the intersection with West Sacramento Avenue Indian Fishery will be on your right.

Indian Fishery Day Use Area
Indian Fishery is an ox bow lake surrounded by a beautiful oak woodland. This is a wonderful area to picnic, bird watch, fish, hike or simply enjoy the wildlife that abounds in the ox bow lake. It is common to observe river otters darting through the water, turtles basking on a fallen tree or herons stalking a meal. Visit Indian Fishery and enjoy the grandeur of massive oaks and the rapidly disappearing river habitat. ” CA State Parks
